Providing Conducive Atmosphere in Upbringing of the Child

“Children are our greatest treasure. They are our future"

                                                                            - Nelson Mandela

Every child has the right to be happy. Each child is unique. Children mirror adult society and when adults are ailing- their vision clouded, children will also suffer. They are the hope of humanity, so we being their parents and teachers, who nurture them, have a noble and great mission and responsibility towards them.

Neither politics nor the economy determines the happiness of humanity or the future of society- Education does. Education is the foundation of all. The Swiss educator, Johann Hein-rich Pestalozzi(1746-1827)said that home is the first place for children to refine their humanity.

Parents' Love and Sincerity

There is no such thing as a perfect parent. It is said that children are more comfortable talking with parents who can admit and talk about their failures than with parents who brag.

It is important to make efforts to become a wise parent but just trying to fit the image of one, will make your child suffer. Be true to yourself. Children’s life will be determined by how their parents live. The parents’ love and the way of life will, like magma beneath the earth’s crust, from the innermost core of the children’s hearts and become a source of energy to support the rest of their lives.

Listening and Understanding

We, being their parents, should try to understand children’s feelings, encourage their hopes, and help them improve themselves. It is always important to believe in their potential and pray earnestly for their growth. Parents should not take a passive attitude towards their children. While they should avoid being overprotective or controlling, it is the parents’ responsibility to help them live comfortably, to regularly share their children’s problems, and search for solutions together.

Respecting Children’s Personalities

Children need not be saints. Parents need to accept the way children live their childhood. Then, in time, the children will naturally change for the better. Parents should not dismiss their ideas offhandedly, simply because they are children and impose their ideas on them.

The poet John Milton asserted that just as morning shows the day, one’s childhood shows what kind of person one will grow into.

A Child Is Not an Extension of Parents

Parents always hope that their children will fare better in the world than they did. Unfortunately, there are many parents whose hopes for their children amount to nothing more than the gratification of their own egoistic thoughts. Naturally, people want their children to be able to accomplish what they were unable to.

This may be an expression of the parents’ love. Children are not the extension of parents; they are budding independent entities just as each new sapling requires a conducive atmosphere to grow. To provide this atmosphere, parents must base their views on this understanding.

Creating Healthy Environment at School

Children may have different reasons for not wanting to attend school. They may feel distressed by seemingly trivial matters at home or school; they may be physically or emotionally exhausted.

It is important to listen to them carefully and try to understand them, to find out the reason for their suffering and anxiety. It is especially important to create a home environment where they can feel safe and secure. Adults may not realize the extent to which school life preoccupies a child’s mind. Transferring from one school to another is especially challenging. Children hope the school will be fun, but if the new school environment is harsh, they may become disheartened. This situation can be turned around if family members, close friends, and teachers are supportive and warmly embrace them.

Providing a conducive environment, in the classroom be it traditional or online is an utmost necessity. Families that take interest in the student’s education, play a significant role with equal importance to that of the teacher or instructor in the learning process.
